Hello! My name is Ben Melville and this is my site.

As of summer 2011 I am a 30 year old part time Visiting Lecturer for the University of Bedfordshire and self employed Accident Investigator. In the summer of 2009 I graduated from the UoB with a 1st Class BA(Hons) Animation and returned the following semester to begin work there as a lecturer. I have also spent the last two years working on a pilot project known as eLocus (information on the Projects page) to use combine these two fields of employment and create 3d animated representations of road traffic accidents.

I presently live in Luton, Bedfordshire (UK) but I am willing to move where ever required on a work basis.

In the final year of my degree I opted to specialise in 3d/computer generated animation, having spent the previous two years focussing on 2d/drawn animation (this was the nature of the course, being focussed primarily on traditional animation principles and drawing). I did this in the hope of increasing my employability and to push this further I took a wide-angled approach to the cg animation process. Using a variety of software I learned elements of modelling (character and environment), texturing, character rigging, lighting, rendering, editing, compositing and sound.

My work at the University of Bedfordshire has evolved year on year, beginning initially purely as a 3d tutor. In the academic year to come (2011-2012) I will be partially taking over tuition of second year 2d/drawn animation exercises and linking them to 3d projects. I was also named Primary Marker during the 2010-2011 academic year, being responsible for all practical work assessment of second and third year students.

I hope you enjoy looking around my site and at my work and always welcome comments, critique and queries.
